Sergio Aguero doubtful for Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, reveals Alejandro Sabella

The Manchester City striker is down with a groin problem that could keep him out of his country’s important Conmebol qualifier at the Monumental in Buenos Aires
Sergio Aguero is doubtful for Argentina’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Bolivia in Buenos Aires on Friday after picking up an injury during training.

The Manchester City striker suffered a groin problem similar to the one that kept him out of his club team’s 4-1 home victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League in mid-October.

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella made the revelation on Thursday and said that should the 23-year-old fail to recover by Friday, then Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Javier Pastore could take his place in the starting line-up.

"Sergio Aguero has a sore groin and is doubtful for the match against Bolivia,” Sabella told the Argentine Football Association's official website.

“In the event that Aguero does not play, Javier Pastore may replace him.

"The rest of the team to play Bolivia is: Sergio Romero, Pablo Zabaleta, Nicolas Burdisso, Martin Demichelis, Clemente Rodriguez, Fernando Gago, Javier Mascherano, Ricardo Alvarez, Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain.

“We do not know whether Aguero will be able to play."

After facing Bolivia at home, Argentina will face Colombia in Barranquilla on Tuesday.

La Albiceleste are currently second in the qualifying standings with three points, having won against Chile and lost to Venezuela in their first two games.
