Santiago Silva Has Signed With A Russian Team And Will Not Join Roma - Agent
Banfield’s star man is reported to have already signed for a Russian club…
Despite heavy speculation linking him with Roma over the last few days, it now seems Uruguayan striker Santiago Silva will not be making a move to Serie A during the January transfer window.
Silva is currently one of the hottest properties in South America, having fired Argentine side Banfield to the first league championship in the club’s history.
The former Gimnasia striker has been a revelation since joining El Taladro from Buenos Aires rivals Velez Sarsfield earlier this year. He finished the season as the Argentine Apertura’s top scorer; netting 14 times in 18 league appearances.
While there have been rumours circulating that Pablo Betancourt, the player’s agent, was travelling to Italy to meet with Roma officials; Italian agent Vincenzo D'Ippolito dismissed any possibility of a move to the Italian capital.
Speaking to Romagiallorossa.com, D'Ippolito confirmed that a deal was already in place with another club for the uncapped Uruguayan forward, “Silva has already signed with a Russian team, I would prefer not to name them, but they paid €5 million outright.”
