The Ecuadorian Soccer Federation (FEF) have started their search for a new coach for the national team. The FEF parted company with Sixto
Vizuete after he failed to get a ticket for the 2010 World Cup. Vizueta has been appointed as coach of the Under-20 team after being releases from his duties as coach of Ecuador's senior side.
Ecuador qualified for the 2002 and 2006 World Cup, but they failed to make it to South Africa. They finished sixth in the table of the South American World Cup qualification group with 23 points. Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Argentine won direct qualification, while Uruguay lock horns with Costa Rica for the last available spot for South Africa.
FEF director Luis Chiriboga told reporters that Edgardo Bauza is a candidate to replace Vizuete as national team coach. Bauza coached Ecuadorian club Liga de Quito before and guided them to Copa Libertadores glory in 2008.
Chiriboga added that Ecuador will probably meet reigning European champions Spain in an international friendly in December or March 2010, and in case of not having a coach by that time, Vizuete will be the temporary tactician for the match.
