El Nacional Seek Victory Over Nacional
El Nacional de Quito and Nacional of Asuncion will inaugurate the latest edition of the Copa Libertadores, in a match that will be disputed in the Ecuadorian capital...
El Nacional de Quito will be hoping to take advantage of the 2,850 metre altitude in the Ecuadorian capital, to claim a valuable victory over Nacional of Paraguay, in the inaugurating match of the 2009 Copa Libertadores.
The Ecuadorian giants have reinforced their squad with plenty of quality this season, and will not only be seeking passage into the group stage of the Copa Libertadores, but will hope to reach the decisive stages of the continental competition.
Signs look promising, particularly with the signings of Jorge Ladines and Michael Quinonez, two players who did extremely well at their previous clubs last season.
Meanwhile, Nacional of Asuncion, who are coached by Daniel Raschle, will only arrive in Quito hours before the match, in order to minimize the possible effects of the high altitude.
Last time the Paraguayans participated in the competition was in 2006, but they were eliminated by Universitario of Peru in the preliminary round, after drawing 2-2 in Asuncion, and 0-0 in Lima.
The first leg of the preliminary playoff will be staged at the Atahualpa stadium in Quito, which has a capacity for 41,000 spectators.
