thumbnail Hello,

The former Three Lions defender tells a Gatorade event that the Liverpool striker’s unreal form this season will count in Uruguay’s favour

Martin Keown has warned England to expect the unexpected from Luis Suarez in Sao Paulo on Thursday.

Roy Hodgson’s side face a crucial Group encounter against Uruguay with both sides viewing victory as key to their chances of progress to the second round.

And former Arsenal defender Keown says England must be on their guard against the Liverpool striker - despite his struggle for fitness following a knee operation.

“You have to expect the unexpected with him. He’s a really difficult opponent to play against and the English players will know all about him of course,” said Keown, speaking at a Gatorade ‘Unreal Around The World’ event at Emirates Stadium.

“This game will be the significant game because they have got to beat Uruguay or at the very least get a draw.”

Suarez was an unused substitute for Uruguay’s 3-1 defeat against Costa Rica but Keown expects the 27-year-old to be fit and firing for their next game.

“Is he going to be fit? I feel he will turn up so, for England’s sake, let’s just hope Suarez doesn’t have the last laugh,” added Keown.
