Portugal Under-21 international Cedric Soares has revealed to Goal.com his delight at attracting the attention of Bundesliga giants with his Sporting Lisbon performances.
The 21-year-old has been rumoured to be on his way out of the Portuguese club over the last couple of windows, but this summer could be an altogether different situation with interest increasing.
With Borussia Dortmund, Hannover, Dusseldorf and Borussia Monchengladbach chasing him, the right-back has professed his desire to move back to his homeland.
He told Goal.com: "Four Bundesliga clubs expressed their interest in a transfer last summer. Of course, it would be awesome if it works out [this year]."
Soares was born in Gelsenkirchen, where Schalke are located, and he dismissed any notion of the Bundesliga (which could see three of its teams qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals) being weaker than the Premier League (of which only Arsenal have the slimmest of hopes).
"Now it's time for the next step. The Bundesliga is at the same level as the Premier League, and I can keep up," he added. "The conditions for a move to Germany are good."
Soares believes his attacking qualities still have plenty of room for improvement, and hinted his current club’s poor state economically could see his dream move to the Bundesliga realised.
"I must still improve in the offensive game. I need the ball more push forward," he continued. "At the moment, Sporting are not very good financially, [and] I hope that the move finally happens this summer."
