Thuso Phala: South Africa need to create more
The Bafana Bafana winger has warned his team-mates that they still have plenty of work to do if they are to have a successful Afcon, despite coming top of Group A
EXCLUSIVEBy Lunga Ntuli
South Africa winger Thuso Phala has warned his team-mates that they will need to create more chances if they are to be successful in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Bafana Bafana came top of Group A, sealing a place in the knockout stages of the tournament, but scored just four goals in their three games.
“It is great that we have qualified, but I think there is more work to be done. We need to keep on working hard because any mistakes that we do now, will see us out of the tournament,” he told Goal.com.
“We have not really supplied our strikers very well, but I hope that going forward these are things that we must work on if we want to do well. From my side I am willing to give everything for my country."
Phala's performances have seen him touted with a move abroad, but he is remaining grounded, saying the focus is firmly on Afcon matters.
“It important to focus on the task at hand and that is what I entail doing at the moment. Yes, it is every players dream to get better opportunities, but I believe that it is action that must do the talking,” he added.
“I don’t think I will be doing justice to myself if I take all the credit. I think that the guys have played very well as a team, and if we can continue being so united then there are greater things coming for us,” he said.
