Tottenham expect Sherwood to turn down Blackburn job
Sep 28, 2012 12:20:00 PM
Spurs will not stand in the 43-year-old's way if his former club come calling - but the Londoners are confident he will reject the chance to replace under-fire Steve Kean
EXCLUSIVEBy Greg Stobart
Tottenham expect Tim Sherwood to turn down the opportunity to manage Blackburn Rovers if his former club come calling.
The former Rovers captain is the top target to take over from Steve Kean should the under-pressure Scot finally leave Ewood Park.
Sherwood, who is currently technical co-ordinator at Spurs, is keen on becoming a manager and Tottenham would not stand in Sherwood’s way if he wants to leave the club, with an approach expected once Kean is sacked.

And Spurs are hopeful that he will stay, despite being overlooked for a role as technical director at White Hart Lane. The former Tottenham midfielder has a strong relationship with chairman Daniel Levy and is being groomed to eventually take over as head coach of the north London club having been appointed by Harry Redknapp four years ago.
“Tim is very clued up and would be crazy to gamble his future on Blackburn right now,” a Spurs insider told Goal.com. “He’s so highly thought of at Spurs and while he’s ambitious, he’s also patient and knows what he’s working towards.”
Tottenham are looking for a more experienced figure to take a director role, with former England No. 2 Franco Baldini the leading candidate and ex-Barcelona and ex-Barcelona director of football Txiki Begiristain reportedly under consideration.
Levy is looking to re-introduce a continental-style set-up to aid Villas-Boas four years after abandoning the director of football model when Damien Comolli was sacked in October 2008.
Club sources insist there are no plans to appoint a sporting director but admit they are actively targeting a recruitment specialist to work directly with Levy, the manager and the scouting team on signing players.
