Former Italy defender Fulvio Collovati believes that there is very little to choose between Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Three-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi has again been in sensational form for Barcelona this season, having only last week become the Catalan club's all-time record goalscorer, while Ibrahimovic's performances for AC Milan have drawn comparisons with Rossoneri legend Marco van Basten.
Consequently, Collovati has admitted ahead of the Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash between their respective sides at San Siro on Wednesday night that he finds it very difficult to choose between the pair.
"Messi and Ibra, we're talking about two of the three best players in the world, along with Cristiano Ronaldo," the former AC Milan and Inter centre-back told Goal.com.
"How do you choose one of the two? Both are part of the elite of world football. Both are devastating, though obviously each has his own characteristics.
"Ibra needs a team built around him; Messi is perfect when fitted to a mechanism, such as Barcelona, playing with a ball on the ground and positioned up front.
"Maybe Messi is more of a finisher, even though Ibra, at least this year, is scoring goals in bunches."
Milan's eagerly-awaited meeting with reigning world, European and Spanish champions Barca gets underway at 20:45CET.
