Dear readers,

Happy new year!

We bid farewell not only to 2009 tonight, but also the first decade of the new millenium. The last ten years have been memorable in terms of teams, trophies, fans, and of course players. We brought in the new year by asking you, the reader, to vote for your top player of the last ten years. You chose Ronaldo - a phenomenon of unmatched ability.

Now, though, it's time to look forward - not for ten years, but just one. The African Cup of Nations is just days away; then the Champions League resumes; the Copa Libertadores; the league run-ins; the World Cup. Factor in the transfer window and we have a year in which excitement will be hard to avoid, and restful moments hard to come by!

It is our life's work at Goal.com to keep you involved in all the football action, and to facilitate a community spirit across the whole world. We can't do it without your input, your help, and your enthusiasm. We do hope you stay with us throughout 2010 and beyond. Let's make it a footballing year to remember.

Yours,

Ewan Macdonald
