Logo Poll
The fans embody the spirit of football, and thus also the spirit of Goal.com. So it only makes sense that our loyal readers have a chance to help shape the future of the site. With these ideals in mind came the logo contest.
It has been a massive success so far, with literally thousands of entries being rounded down to a shortlist of 21.
The 20 runners-up each leave with a $100 voucher for the Goal.com Shop. We thank them, and all other entrants, for their excellent work.
But one logo stands above all the others, and will form the basis of the new image of our site. The Almossawi brothers from Bahrain are our winners, and will now see their creation crowning Goal.com, as well as their receiving $2,500 for their efforts!
The brothers will now team up with Goal.com design staff to flesh out this design, and in a short while it will appear as the official new logo of our site. Note that while we expect the final logo to appear as close as possible to the design provided by the Almossawi brothers, we’ll need to ensure that it is sufficiently unique so as to not infringe on someone else’s property rights.
Here are the brothers themselves to tell us a bit more about the chosen design in an interview.

What’s your name?
We are two brothers: Ali and Hussain Almossawi. We work together and inspire one another under the name of our online identity: Skyrill Design (www.skyrill.com).
Where are you from?
We're both from Bahrain.
How old are you?
Ali is 24 (right in photo) and Hussain is 20 (left in photo).
Are you a soccer fan?
The only sport we have known and loved since childhood is soccer. We play in 6-aside friendly matches once or twice a week and, whenever time permits, participate in local tournaments. Our father played for a soccer club back in his youth days, and he has always been a big influence on us.
What do you think about a Logo designed by a Fan?
It is a wonderful idea because a logo or any other piece of work that emerges from a community of passionate fans is much more likely to be true to a website's spirit. Users are the heart and soul of community-based websites, so they end up moulding a website's image to that which they collectively feel is appropriate, which is the reason why their input is so crucial. When a website reaches out to its user-base for anything, even if it's asking them for their opinions on a recent change, that is a sure sign of the website's appreciation for their most important asset and their acknowledgement that their fans aren't just fans, but more than that: they are designers, engineers, athletes, etc. who all want to see the community that they belong to become better.
How does the Logo you designed represent the Goal.com values, vision and goals?
The idea behind this logo is to emphasize Goal.com's international appeal and reach. The differently-coloured strokes that make up the "O" resemble the coming together of fans from different parts of the world - different cultures, different societies and different backgrounds. They all come together to form the shape of a football, which, of course, symbolizes Goal.com!
What is the meaning of the coloured symbol in your Logo?
The different colours represent different cultures, regions, backgrounds, etc. from across the globe, and their coming-together in a single, powerful element symbolizes the game of soccer's ability to unite. When the logo was first designed, many different colours were chosen to resemble diversity, but since simplicity was an attribute that was important to us, we ended up going with just three coloured strokes. We experimented with different combinations of colours; the ones that we settled on were the ones that we felt gelled the nicest together to convey the theme that we had in mind.
