UEFA president and former Juventus playmaker Michel Platini has revealed his desire to award the Champions League trophy to his old side.

The Bianconeri have been impressive in Europe this season. A double over Spanish champions Real Madrid helped secure first place in Group H as the Old Lady found themselves in the last 16 of the competition with relative ease - especially when considering a mini injury crisis suffered midway through the group stage campaign.

With this season's final in Rome, where Juve last lifted the trophy in 1996, Platini admits he would love to see his former team conquer Europe again.

"I would love to give the Champions League to Juventus," Platini told La Stampa.

'Le Roy' has also hailed Juve captain, talisman and all-round hero Alessandro Del Piero, and he believes the opener against Real Madrid during the 2-1 win in Turin is the goal of the season in Europe so far.

"I was in Turin when Del Piero stunned Iker Casillas and I rose to my feet, not only because im a Juventino, but I think it was the goal of 2008," added the Frenchman.

The Bianconeri have serious Champions League ambitions this season and they will take on Premier League side Chelsea in February.
