Juventus were on the verge of signing Olympique Lyonnais striker Karim Benzema when he was just 17 but Calciopoli mastermind Luciano Moggi wasn't convinced.

The French hit-man is one of Europe's hottest strikers and his club have slapped a €100 million price tag on his head in order to scare off interest.

However, things could have been different and Benzema should have been a Juve player.

Leggo claims a close friend of Moggi advised the former Juve director to snap up the striker while he was still in the Lyon youth ranks. At the time, the Old Lady had just brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic into the squad and the Frenchman was considered surplus to requirements in Turin.

However, in 2006 Moggi had changed his mind about Benzema and he was planning to sign him in the summer, but Calciopoli rocked the Italian game and the striker was never able to complete his move the the Bianconeri.
