Almiron only signed for Juve from Empoli last year for €9m and was immediately labelled as the “new Sebsatian Veron”, due to his similarities to the former Lazio and Inter man in both looks and style of play.

However, the 27-year-old midfielder has been a huge disappointment at the Stadio Olimpico, and after making just five starts in Serie A, he was shipped out on loan to Monaco in January.

The former Udinese man has since returned to the Bianconeri, but he is certain to leave this summer. He has been linked with a whole host of clubs including Palermo, Galatasaray, and most recently Napoli.

However, Tuttosport claims that Almiron is flying to Argentine capital Buenos Aires today for talks over a possible move to River Plate.

Los Millionarios are coached by former Serie A star Diego Simeone, and already include the likes of Ariel Ortega, Diego Buonanotte and Radamel Falcao in their line-up.

If Almiron were to join River, it would mean a return back to his homeland, having spent the last seven years in Europe.
