“It’s obvious that this line of business produces such rumours but in this case it is absolute nonsense,” Völler  insisted on the club’s official website. “We’ve brought Toni Kroos here on loan and nothing more than that.”

The ex national team striker also commented on Theofanis Gekas’ recent departure to Premier League side Portsmouth, which was quickly followed by the addition of his Greek compatriot Angelos Charisteas on loan from 1. FC Nurnberg.

“We’ve been looking for a solution for Fanis for a long time because he was not happy with his situation,” explained Völler. “He didn’t cause any problems but he was looking for a new challenge.

“We did it because we knew that we couldn’t satisfactorily resolve the situation with Gekas. The position with Angelos Charisteas is as follows: If he’s needed he can come in and help us at anytime.”
