Landon Donovan has revealed that his Los Angeles Galaxy team-mate David Beckham has acted as a mentor of sorts as he seeks to make a lasting impression during his extended loan spell at Bayern Munich.

The 26-year-old American ace officially arrived in Munich on loan from LA Galaxy until March 15, but he has hardly made a secret of his desire to make the deal more permanent.

He and Beckham have developed a strong bond since the former England captain's blockbuster move to the MLS, which evidently is still very much in tact.

"David has tried to lift me and told me that I am going to make it," Donovan said in the Bild newspaper.

"I know that he hopes that everything works out for me at Bayern. We are in contact and write each other text messages.

"I told him recently that I think it's great how he is playing for AC Milan."

"David has already said he will be back in Los Angeles in mid-March, but the situation is a bit different with me," Donovan added tellingly. "I want to make it here."
