Bastian Schweinsteiger’s contract with German champions Bayern Munich was set to run out at the end of the season, and renegotiations had stalled in recent weeks.
Several European giants, including Serie A side Juventus and Spanish champions Real Madrid, were ready to pounce for the Germany international, who could have been signed on a free transfer next summer.
However, Bayern have announced this morning on their official website that Schweini has inked a contract extension that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2012.
Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge briefly commented that the club were very happy to have settled this important issue.
