Uruguay's Diego Forlan proud to follow in family footsteps after Copa America victory

The La Liga based forward did not hide the importance of this title after his father and his grandfather had, too, got their hands on the trophy in the past
Uruguay striker Diego Forlan has dedicated the Copa America title to all his countrymen and added it is a matter of pride for his family.

The Atletico Madrid ace had not scored previously in the competition, but played a leading role in the final as he netted Uruguay's second and third goals.

Forlan, who has equalised Hector Scarone as Uruguay's all-time top scorer on 31 goals, spoke of the importance of the title after the match.

"My grandfather won it, my father won it and now I have won it. It is a pride for the family," he said.

Despite the 3-0 scoreline, Forlan stated that beating Paraguay was no easy task and stressed his side's good start to the match was crucial.

"It was a complicated match, we knew it, but the team played well. The goals and the way Uruguay started out, helped us," the World Cup 2010 Golden Ball winner added.

"We are happy, for all of Uruguay, for everyone, to celebrate."
