Winning Copa America is priority, not being top of goal charts - Liverpool & Uruguay's Luis Suarez

The striker admits he will not be thinking about personal glory when he plays in the tournament final on Sunday, and believes his national side have a bright future

Luis Suarez has insisted his main priority is to ensure Uruguay win the Copa America rather than finding the net to become the competition's outright top scorer.

The Liverpool striker is joint top with Argentina's Sergio Aguero on three goals after he netted a double in the semi-final against Peru.

Suarez told AFP: "Being top scorer is not the important thing for me.

"The main issue is the collective dream of winning the Copa.

"Personal stuff is secondary to that."

Uruguay will be aiming to secure their 15th Copa America title when they square off against Paraguay at the weekend.

Suarez insists they must forget about previous triumphs and feels their recent success on the international scene is down to grassroots work.

"We'll not forget about those titles [but] we are thinking about the present, about carrying on winning. Uruguay are not going to waste time celebrating past achievements and past titles won," said Suarez.

He continued: "The U-20 team has been doing well, qualifying for the London Olympics, while the U-17 side were runners-up at their World Championship and we were fourth at the World Cup in South Africa. Now we are in the final of the Copa."
