The trainer could not hide his delight in leading Venezuela to the last four for the first time and stated that he was determined to secure World Cup football for 2014

Victorious Cesar Farias could not hide his delight at qualifying Venezuela for the Copa America semi-finals, marking it as an historic occasion in the nation's football history.

Goals from Oswaldo Vizcarrondo and Gabriel Cichero led Venezuela to a shock 2-1 victory over Chile in San Juan on Sunday evening, booking the nation's place in the last four for the first time in history.

Farias' team remains unbeaten so far in the Copa and will meet Paraguay on Wednesday for the chance to make the final.

Speaking to reporters at-length after the game, Farias did not hold back as he praised his battlers for their achievement and warned that he had no plans to finish the giant-killing.

"We trained to play six matches and we did it, despite the fact that nobody took us into consideration," Farias said.

"Venezuela have played against three World Cup teams and Ecuador, and haven't lost against a single one.

"Today we beat Chile, the revelation of the [World Cup] qualifiers, confirmed in South Africa. We proved that we can compete with the rest of South America."

The 38-year-old coach went on to state that his dreams would not end in the semis and that his Vinotinto heroes were already looking towards the future.

"[The players] are not content with this and they are hoping to continue going forward. This experience also leaves us well-placed thinking about the next qualifying tournament, since our hope is to play the Brazil World Cup in 2014," Farias explained.

With the victory Venezuela are guaranteed to beat their previous best finishes in a Copa, fifth place in 1967 out of a total of eight contenders and their sixth place in 2007 on home soil.
