Ecuador coach Reinaldo Rueda has received a blow in the build-up to their crucial Copa America group stage game against Brazil, as Antonio Valencia has been ruled out of the contest due to injury.
The Manchester United winger sustained the knock in his side's scoreless draw with Paraguay and was forced to watch the match against Venezuela from the stands as a result of the problem.
"Valencia still has a lot of pain in his left ankle," team physiotherapist Tony Ocampo stated, according to Eurosport.
The 26-year-old suffered severe bruising in the same place where he underwent surgery last year after breaking his ankle in a Champions League match versus Rangers.
Ecuador currently sit fourth in Group B, and need three points against Brazil on July 14 in order to qualify for the knockout stage.
