The veteran playmaker has urged his side to respond in their Copa Libertadores clash with Toluca following Saturday's dismal defeat
Carlos Bianchi's side face Mexican outfit Toluca on Wednesday in their latest Copa Libertadores tie, and former Argentina international Riquelme is desperate for a response from his side following their heaviest defeat in a decade.
“We can not play worse than we did at the weekend. We apologize to our fans and hopefully we can play well on Wednesday and make them happy,” he told reporters.
Riquelme, who did not feature in Saturday's clash, believes his side will benefit from playing Toluca knowing their progression out of the group has already been secured.
"For us it is important to be playing the Copa Libertadores and to have qualified in advance," he went on. "If we had to go to win in Mexico after the result we had in San Juan, there would be a lot of nerves.”
