Boca's Riquelme: We are the best team in the country
The club talisman quickly shot down a reporter who had implied the Xeneize's brilliant recent run in domestic and continental competition was down more to luck than talent
Boca Juniors star Juan Roman Riquelme reacted angrily to the suggestion that his side's success was out of proportion to their quality on the field, and labelled the treble hopefuls as the best team in Argentina. The Xeneize are currently fighting for an historic three-trophy haul in the first half of 2012. As well as leading the Clausura and preparing for a Copa Libertadores semi-final against Universidad de Chile, Julio Cesar Falcioni's men will also play the inaugural final of the Copa Argentina against Racing Club.
Questioned by a journalist about the team's current level in Tuesday's press conference, Roman gave the query short shrift as he backed Boca as the best in the nation.
"We think that we are the best in the country. If we are playing badly, how are the others doing? We must be 'less bad' than the rest then," was the No. 10s withering response to the journalist.
"Are you saying we were lucky? We've been lucky for the last 50 games then... We are the only team in the Copa Argentina final, the Libertadores semi and we are the only leaders of the Clausura."
Boca will host the Chilean champions and Copa Sudamericana holders on Thursday evening in the first leg of their last-four tie, the return match occurring the following week.
