The Liverpool man has pulled out of the game in New Jersey because he is set to become a father, but Rodrigo Brana has remained is fit after recovering from a thigh injury
Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has called up Augusto Fernandez for the upcoming friendly against Brazil after Maxi Rodriguez withdrew from the squad for family reasons.Liverpool's Rodriguez took the decision to pull out of the squad for the game in the United States because his wife is expecting a child.
That freed up a space for Velez Sarsfield winger Fernandez, who has previously represented his country on two occasions.
It had initially been thought that the 26-year-old had been summoned to replace Rodrigo Brana, but the veteran defensive midfielder has recovered from a bruised right thigh and is available to face the Selecao.
Argentina's clash with arch-rivals Brazil is scheduled to get under way at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey at 21:00CET on June 9.
