The Colombian provoked outrage among his team-mates when he brandished a weapon in a post-match dressing room fracas, and Cogorno believes his time at the club is over

Racing Club president Gaston Cogorno has affirmed that Teofilo Gutierrez will never play for the club again after pulling an airgun on a team-mate in the wake of a clasico defeat, and also confirmed Luis Zubeldia as the successor to Alfio Basile in the coaching position.

The Colombian was confronted in the Academia dressing room by captain Sebastian Saja after being sent off during a 4-1 defeat to Independiente on Saturday, Racing's fifth loss in 10 Clausura matches. Tempers flared when compatriot Gio Moreno attempted to intervene, and was apparently struck by 'El Chino'.

Gutierrez reacted by reaching into his bag for a weapon, believed to be an airgun, and after the situation was defused he was forced to take a taxi home from Independiente's Doble Visera as he was refused entry onto the team bus.

Speaking on Sunday, Cogorno affirmed that he saw no way for Teo to regain a place in the first team.

"I believe it is impossible for him to continue at Racing. Our intention is that he will no longer be part of the professional set-up," the new chief explained to reporters in a press conference, also confirming the reports that a gun was pulled in the dressing room following the game.

Cogorno went on to reveal that, following Basile's resignation at the weekend, former Lanus and Barcelona coach Zubeldia would take over at the helm.

"We were convinced by Zubeldia's ideas, and impressed by how he works and his project for the club. He will have our support to start working for the club," the president stated.

Zubeldia's first game in charge is expected to be against San Martin de San Juan at the weekend, while reserve coach Juan Barbas will take command on Wednesday in the Copa Argentina last-16 match against Sarmiento.
