Together we can save San Lorenzo, says new coach Caruso Lombardi
The colourful trainer has a reputation for rescuing clubs from relegation, and he has every intention of living up to it as he takes over in Bajo Flores
Ricardo Caruso Lombardi believes that he can be the miracle man once more and save San Lorenzo from relegation to the Nacional B, as the coach agreed to succeed Leonardo Madelon in the Nuevo Gasometro. The well-travelled coach was confirmed as the new Cuervo man late on Tuesday evening after agreeing to leave former club Quilmes and return to the Argentine top flight. Caruso had come close to saving the Cervecero from relegation in the 2010-11 season and coincidentally, in that campaign he also replaced Madelon.
Speaking to the press for the first time as he prepared for Sunday's clash against Racing Club, the outspoken coach affirmed that he would do all he could to keep San Lorenzo, currently languishing in the promocion play-off places, in the top flight.
"God willing this year will not be the exception. Together we are going to save San Lorenzo," Caruso stated to Ole, referring to his impressive record in helping teams avoid the drop.
"A big club like this does not come looking for you every day, but I have a lot of faith in myself."
The 50-year-old is perhaps best known in Argentina for saving fellow giants Racing from relegation during the 2009 Clausura, a feat he repeated with Tigre.
His first match with his new club will be against La Academia, in his former Cilindro home.
