Resting Juan Roman Riquelme left out of Argentina clash with Brazil

The Boca star will not face off against Neymar and co. for the local selection after it was revealed that he picked up a minor injury at the weekend
Argentina and Brazil fans have been denied a potentially mouth-watering clash between Ronaldinho and Juan Roman Riquelme in Wednesday's international, after the Boca Juniors star was left out of the squad in order to preserve his fragile fitness.

Coach Alejandro Sabella published a list of 23 locally-based players on the official AFA website on Sunday evening, as he prepares to take on Mano Menezes' Brazilian counterparts in Cordoba in the first of two Superclasico friendlies. The Selecao will include stars such as Flamengo's Ronaldinho and young Santos sensation Neymar.

Riquelme had been slated to make an appearance, but after consultation with Boca medics following Sunday's 1-0 victory over San Martin, it was decided to leave the 33-year-old on the sidelines. Riquelme, Ole reports, is carrying a strain in his left calf muscle and will be spared for club duties.

One of the biggest names to be included for the Albiceleste is Juan Sebastian Veron, who is included for national team duties for the first time since the 2010 World Cup. The veteran is one of five players included from Sabella's former employers Estudiantes; while fellow call-ups Agustin Orion and Clemente Rodriguez of Boca also represented the La Plata club under his tutelage.
