Daniel Passarella revealed that Rogelio Funes Mori would be sold if a good enough offer came in for the River Plate youngster...

River Plate president Daniel Passarella has given the strongest indication yet that Rogelio Funes Mori could be leaving the club, revealing that a big-money deal for the youngster would solve the club's financial difficulties and leave them on solid ground.

'El Mellizo' Funes Mori has been the subject of strong transfer interest in recent months, with Benfica acting as the most persistent suitors and clubs from England and Italy also closely following the 19-year-old striker. River are determined to get the best price possible for their gem however; and in a rare open interview Passarella identified a big move as a key step in cancelling the crippling debts possessed by the Buenos Aires institution.

"If we sell Funes Mori, the club would be left in a healthy state- we would be able to start from zero once more," 'El Kaiser' revealed to Radio Del Plata on Wednesday night.

"My desire is to ensure a healthy River, go home and have the fans keep welcoming me as it was my first day. I will not talk about figures for [Funes Mori], but up until now they have not come close to what we are aiming for."

Passarella closed the interview by talking about Ariel Ortega, who was told he would no longer be needed in the Monumental and will spend the next six months on loan at All Boys. With unusual candour the football legend admitted that 'El Burrito's exit hurt him on a personal level.

"Ariel was a friend of my son, he is my godson and it hurt to see him leave. It was the saddest thing I have seen as president," the ex-Argentina coach confessed.
