Argentina Dispatch: Apertura Team Of The Month
Daniel Edwards looks at the players who have been setting the early pace in the Primera Division...
By Daniel Edwards
Central defence:
Jonathan Bottinelli, San Lorenzo- The stopper with the flowing blonde locks has been a cornerstone of Ramon Diaz’s improving Ciclon side.
Marcos Caceres, Racing Club- After almost a year out through injury the Paraguayan has been impressive so far for La Academia, and his cannonball winner at the Bombonera will be remembered for a long time.

Leandro Desabato, Estudiantes- The Pincha are the only team yet to concede a goal this season- although with a game in hand- and much of the credit must go to the veteran defender who has been a regular presence in the La Plata team’s backline for over a decade.
Centre Midfield: Claudio Yacob, Racing Club- Sorely missed in the club’s last game against Olimpo, ‘La Flaca’ has grown into his captain’s role this season and along with Patricio Toranzo has given Racing a stability in the centre that had been absent for some time.
Centre Midfield: Matias Almeyda, River Plate- Surrounded by sprightly young teenagers in the River midfield and attack ‘El Pelado’ is a calming influence at number five, and has been outstanding for the Millonarios so far.
Right midfield: Maxi Moralez, Velez Sarsfield- There is simply no praise high enough for this livewire with a legitimate claim to best player in the Primera. Equally adept on the wing or as enganche, Maxi can rip a defence apart- and has formed a lethal link with Santiago Silva for ‘El Fortin’.
Left midfield: Walter Erviti, Banfield- So close to leaving El Taladro for River in the pre-season, fans of the south Buenos Aires club must be delighted that the talented playmaker stuck around. Great on the ball, quick and with an eye for goal, Erviti has been his usual sparkling self early on.

Enganche: David Ramirez, Godoy Cruz- Tiny Mendoza club Godoy have picked up where they left off last season with an impressive eight points from four games- and no-one has done more to help than this journeyman number 10 who notched three goals in August.
Striker: Lucas Viatri, Boca Juniors- The only Boca player to make the team, Viatri has been positively carrying his struggling side in the goal stakes with three out of their four efforts coming from his boot or head. Finally emerging out of the gigantic shadow of Martin Palermo to stake his claim as a player in his own right. Beats out Rogelio Funes Mori by a breath.
Striker: Luciano Leguizamon, Arsenal de Sarandi- It is one thing to score goals when you have a world class array of providers and the fans at your back; completely another to do it for, well, Arsenal de Sarandi. The Uruguayan’s three goals have lifted Arsenal to an unlikely second place, and more importantly harvested valuable points for the relegation threatened team.
