Lanus Coach Luis Zubeldia To Serve One Match Suspension For Second-Half Delay

The tecnico had been sent off at the weekend for taking longer than 15 minutes in the half-time break...

Lanus tecnico Luis Zubeldia will watch his team's next match from the sidelines, after he became the first coach to feel the wrath of the Argentine FA's new rules on tardiness.

The 29-year-old is the youngest coach in Argentine history, and was expelled in Saturday's derby against Banfield after his Lanus side were roughly a minute late taking the field for the second half. Ole subsequently report that the AFA ruled the suspension cannot be deferred in favour of a fine; which means he will be replaced by assistant Maxi Cuberas for Saturday's clash away to Gimnasia.

Speaking to La Red, Zubeldia accepted his penalty, admitting that it was his error for being late for the second period.

"The expulsion was fair. We had a meeting with [Banfield coach Julio Cesar] Falcioni and [referee] Pezzotta. I didn't hear the referee warning that we had to come out. The players stayed in the tunnel huddled up."

"Now they have confirmed that I am suspended for one game... We are in a learning phase but five games, as they were discussing, seems too much. Away it is not easy."
