Argentina playmaker Lionel Messi yesterday vowed to do everything possible to ensure interim coach Sergio Batista remains at the head of the Albiceleste, as his team prepare to play world champions Spain a week today.
'La Pulga' Messi arrived in Buenos Aires yesterday in preparation for the widely anticipated friendly at River Plate's Monumental stadium on September 7. And the Barcelona star had barely landed in his home country before he was praising his former Under-20 and Olympics coach 'El Checho' Batista.
"The team doesn't see Checho as an interim coach. We know that he is now our tecnico, and we are going to do everything possible so that things go well, that way he can continue being out coach," Messi told Ole yesterday evening.
"I have known Checho since the Olympic Games, we have shared many great moments and we know what he wants and what he thinks."
Messi also had kind words for his Seleccion captain and new Barca team-mate Javier Mascherano; but reserved the biggest praise for fellow Argentine Gabriel Milito, who has returned to the international set-up after a long period on the sidelines.
"I am overjoyed that Gabriel has another chance. He has sacrificed a lot and now he is at a very high level. It makes me very happy and he deserves it."
