Independiente left-back Maxi Velazquez claimed today that he was ready to walk away from Avellaneda without playing a game, after seeing Lucas Mareque fill his place in the team for the first two games of the year.

Velazquez was brought to the Doble Visera in the pre-season break to replace the supposedly Europe-bound Mareque, who had been linked to clubs in England and France. With no concrete offers arriving however it is looking more and more likely that Mareque will continue to occupy the full back slot until at least January, leading to Velazquez to issue an ultimatum earlier today.

"I am starting to want to leave, I put it down as an alternative to the current situation for the president," Maxi revealed to La Red in an tense interview.

"But he asked me to have patience and that I give him a few days to see what happens with Lucas. I have never had to go through this before in my career and it is difficult to bear. More than anything after the great spell I enjoyed in Lanus."

"If Lucas doesn't go, I would like to... I do not want to stay here six months or a year without playing."
