Buses carrying the Boca Juniors 'barra brava' were stopped by police on the way to Sunday's clash against Godoy Cruz in Mendoza, with Mendozan officers intercepting weapons intended for use in a planned internal battle at the stadium.

Argentine news agency Telam reports that the convoy of buses carrying 'La 12' to the stadium was stopped 110km from Mendoza, and the vehicles thoroughly searched. Police were working on a tip-off from their Buenos Aires counterparts that the 'official' barra were planning to ambush their rivals in order to take full control of the Boca stands.

"We confiscated cocaine, marijuana, two LSD tabs, alcohol and some knives, which were found in two buses," a spokesman for the Mendoza police revealed to Telam on Sunday evening. The same source revealed that they could not make any arrests of the barras, as "it could not be determined who the confiscated items belonged to".

After the search the buses continued en route to the match, under close watch from accompanying police. The game passed without incident.
