thumbnail Hello,

The Superclasico was called off after ten minutes due to torrential rain...

Dreadful conditions forced the Superclasico between Boca Juniors and River Plate to be abandoned after barely ten minutes of action. Extreme rain showers in Buenos Aires made playing conditions impossible as both teams encountered giant puddles of water in the brief time the match was underway.

The game had already been delayed for ten minutes as Boca staff cleared streamers from the goals and when it finally got underway referee Hector Baldassi was forced to stop play five minutes in to clear more streamers. Both sets of players joined in including Juan Roman Riquelme but shortly afterwards Baldassi gathered Boca's Martin Palermo and River's Marcelo Gallardo and after a short discussion it was agreed to call the match off immediately with the game at 0-0.

River Plate currently reside in 11th position while Boca Juniors are 18th in the Argentinian Clausura.
