Argentina Coach Diego Maradona Slams Jorge Valdano
Maradona accuses Valdano of showing lack of patriotism...
By Rupert Fryer
Argentina coach Diego Maradona has launched a vicious attack on his former international team-mate and current Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano.
In another eventful interview with Argentine television network TyC Sports, Maradona accused Valdano of favouring non-Argentine players.
“We [Argentina] have a huge rival,” he said. “Real Madrid and Jorge Valdano! They practically ruined [Gabriel] Heinze, he wanted to clear [Fernando] Gago out and now [Gonzalo] Higuain must be next because he is scoring more goals than [Karim] Benzema and [Cristiano] Ronaldo together.”
Maradona went on to reveal his disbelief that Valdano could favour another player ahead of an Argentine international, as he continued to vent regarding the lack of playing time Gago is receiving.
“I had a good relationship with him [Valdano], but the fact that an Argentine could hold back another Argentine sounds disgusting to me."
