Banfield Coach Julio Cesar Falcioni Dedicates 'Dream' Apertura Title Win To Family
The coach says his team were the complete package...
Despite losing 2-0 to Boca Juniors at La Bombonera, the modest Buenos Aires based side secured their first ever top flight trophy as title rivals Newell's Old Boys lost 2-0 at home to San Lorenzo.
"I'm happy, it's a dream, the result of serious work. I dedicate it to my family, especially my father who always showed me the way," he said afterwards, according to Goal.com South America.
"It's very hard to become champion, although there are many candidates there can be just one champions and we are happy it is us. We were the better team, no doubt, so we are champions. We were the more complete package and we won at all venues. It's hard to be champion and this group [of players] has done it."
While he said that his team deserved to be champions, Falcioni acknowledged that Apertura rivals Newell's would have been worthy champions had they won the title.
"The two teams had a very steady performance and both of us were fighting until the last game. If Newell's were to be champions that also would have been fine," he added.
