Los Millonarios may have struggled on the pitch but this wasn't the case when it came to selling tickets...Despite experiencing another poor season, River Plate were the team who sold the most match tickets in the Argentine Clausura Championship. They were followed by Racing Club, who fought against the threat of relegation all season.
Boca Juniors, who are the most popular team in the country, finished in third place, while the champions, Velez Sarsfield, in fifth. Huracan, who were beaten to the title in the final match of the season by Velez last week sold the fourth most tickets.
The subsequent teams were Independiente and San Lorenzo. Meanwhile, Gimnasia de Jujuy sold the least amount of tickets after a terrible campaign that saw them relegated.
But note that these figures do not include members, who don't buy tickets, and other kinds of promotional offers provided to fans.
When it came down to crowd attendances, River, Boca, Rosario Central, Newell's Old Boys and Huracan finished in the top five places.
Due to the effects of crowd violence almost all of the teams in the First Division decided to provide fans with less tickets than in previous seasons.
