Benfica Transfer For Falcao Stalls Over Debt
The Colombian striker is unlikely to join the club because of money owing to him by River Plate...
A future transfer for Radamel Falcao Garcia to Benfica looks rather difficult at the moment because of money owing to the player from his current club River Plate.
According to reports, the Argentine heavyweights owe the Colombian €400,000, and Falcao isn't willing to leave the Argentine capital without the cash.
Falcao, 23, is considered one of the most talented players in South America, and several top European clubs have been interested in securing his services. These have included Real Madrid, Manchester United and AC Milan.
However, it seemed that he would accept to join Benfica, after the player and both River and Benfica came to an agreement. But the fact that money is still owing to the player reduces the chances of a future transfer.
Like most Argentine clubs River Plate are in serious financial problems, and it is unknown whether they will be able to supply the cash at the moment.
Jose Maria Aguilar, the president of the club, said he hasn't had time to think of a solution because he has been "very busy with important reunions", but in the next few days he will try to find some spare time to sort out the situation.
