Atletico Madrid Keen On Estudiantes Defender

Atletico Madrid have shown an interest in Estudiantes de La Plata defender Marcos Angeleri, and could secure his services for next season, according to a report...

Marcos Angeleri - Estudiantes de La Plata

Marcos Angeleri, of Estudiantes de La Plata, is being tracked by Atletico Madrid, and he could join the Spanish club next season.

"Angeleri is the reinforcement chosen for the right-back position," stated Madrid sports daily As on Friday.

Angeleri, 25, who made his First Division debut with Estudiantes in 2002, apparently has great possibilities of joining Los Rojiblancos.

The defender was part of the Estudiantes side who claimed the 2006 Apertura Championship under the guidance of Juan Sebastian Veron, who returned to the club that season.

In recent weeks it was reported that Diego Maradona could provide Angeleri with an opportunity to impress with the Argentine national team.

Angeleri's current contract with Estudiantes expires next June, and he is more than likely to emigrate to Europe.

Earlier in the year AC Milan were keen on the Argentine, but Estudiantes showed little intention of selling him to them.

On Thursday night Estudiantes qualified for the final of the Copa Sudamericana, after edging Argentinos Juniors 1-0. Angeleri played the full ninety minutes.
