Diego Armando Maradona, who today turned 48 years of age, is preparing to debut for the Argentine national team on the 19th of November in Glasgow, when Los Albicelestes clash with Scotland in a friendly match.
At first, and immediately after Alfio Basile's resignation, it seemed that Olympic coach Sergio Batista would be in charge of the match, however, he has refused to work with Maradona and Carlos Bilardo, the future general director of the national team.
That decision has accelerated Maradona's new era with the national team, although he is still waiting to be officially presented as the head coach of the two-time World Champions.
"It could be that Diego will be there (on the bench) against Scotland. If one of his helpers is Batista, the team will be coached by Batista, but if he decides to continue with the (Argentine) youth categories, it will be Maradona's debut," stated Julio Grondona, the president of AFA on Wednesday.
According to sources close to Bilardo, Maradona will travel to Europe next week to talk with several players who he wishes to take into consideration for the national team.
