According to reports from the Argentine press Alvaro Recoba is moving closer towards a move to Argentine Champions River Plate...
River Plate are after a classy midfielder to fill Ariel Ortega's vacancy, and apparently Recoba could be their man. The Argentine giants intend to offer the former Inter Milan midfielder a two-year contract.
The 32-year-old was on the verge of moving to a Qatari club, but the attacking midfielder admitted that he would prefer to be closer to home.
He attracted interest from two of his former Uruguayan clubs, Nacional and Danubio, as well as that of Penarol. A move to one of these clubs was on the cards, however, River Plate have now come into the picture, and Buenos Aires could well be his next destination.
Last month Recoba catched up with River Plate coach Diego Simeone at the beach resort of Punta del Este, and it has been said that they spoke about a possible transfer.
The former Uruguayan international, who played for Torino last season, has expressed his desire to move to an Argentine club, and a deal could be materialized by early next week.
