Former AC Milan star Andriy Shevchenko wants his former team-mate Clarence Seedorf to try his hand at coaching.

The Dutchman, who currently plays for Botafogo, has been heavily linked with replacing Massimiliano Allegri at San Siro in the summer.

Shevchenko was reluctant to suggest that Seedorf will be a complete success as a trainer, but he does hope that his ex-Rossoneri colleague can thrive on the sidelines should he choose to take up coaching in the future.

"For me, it is difficult to speak of him as a coach because he has never had such an experience," the retired Ukrainian forward told Sky Sport.

"If he were to choose this path then I will wish the best for him and I'll be happy to see him on a bench."

Allegri guided Milan to third in Serie A thanks to an excellent second half to the season, but his job remains in the balance, with a decision expected from the club in June.

Seedorf has played down the speculation while his coach at Botafogo, Oswaldo de Oliveira, laughed off the rumours and insisted the ex-Netherlands international will remain in Brazil.
