Bebeto and Ronaldo hail Arena Fonte Nova
The ex-Selecao forwards are on the Local Organising Committee for World Cup 2014 preparations and spoke glowingly about the new stadium that has been erected in Salvador
Former Brazil strikers Bebeto and Ronaldo have praised the development of the Arena Fonte Nova as the Local Organising Committee concluded their host city tour for the 2014 World Cup.
The stadium has been built specifically for the tournament and Bebeto, who lifted the trophy with the Selecao in 1994, stated his pleasure at seeing the stadium up close.
“Yesterday, when I was arriving in Salvador, it was very emotional to see the stadium from the plane,” Bebeto was quoted as saying on Fifa.com
“I started my career as a player here [in Salvador]. It's still the same thing, but now with a beautiful structure. Congratulations to the workers, you guys should be very proud for helping build a new stadium.”
Ronaldo, who also lifted the World Cup in 1994 and 2002, expressed his happiness at seeing the venue reach completion, and joked that he wished he was still playing to enjoy the surroundings even more.
“It’s a pity that this stadium is only there after I stopped playing. Now I am helping as an administrator to organise the Fifa World Cup, but I feel I could also help on the pitch!”
