The 22-year-old endured a torrid reception from supporters during his club's 2-1 win over Palmeiras on Saturday after his statement regarding rivals Sao Paulo

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has hit back at Ganso after the Brazil international had said that it would be a pleasure to wear the jersey of Sao Paulo, the Peixe's cross-city rivals.

During his side's 2-1 win over Palmeiras on Saturday evening, the 22-year-old was accordingly booed throughout in reaction to his comments.

And the club's president has insisted that the supporters must come first, and that they are entitled to their opinion and that Ganso must accept the reception he receives.

"Fans must be respected. When a theatre actor goes onstage, he or she can receive applause or boos. In football too, this is natural," Ribeiro told Lancenet.

"[The fans] came to me and they were very upset with the player's statement."

Ganso himself reacted to the president's words by insisting that Ribeiro should not have made that statement, but insists he will remain at the club.

"It was something that the president should not have done," the midfielder was quoted as saying by ESPN Brasil.

"Santos decide what they want and I have to obey. I have a contract with Santos, now let's see if I finish the season or not. I am fine in my head and I want to see the Peixe winning."

Following on from their victory, the club rise to ninth place in the Brasileiro standings.
