Mariano Pavone rues missed chances against Flamengo

Lanus put in a great showing in southern Buenos Aires to take a point, but their target man was convinced that a win was within their grasp
Lanus striker Mariano Pavone was not satisfied by a battling Copa Libertadores draw against Brazilian giants Flamengo and insisted that his team could have taken all three points from an entertaining encounter.

The Argentines came out fighting in their opening Copa match of 2012 and had several chances to take the lead before falling behind to Leo Moura's strike. Pavone was heavily involved in the equaliser, as he set up Cesar Carranza to seal a 1-1 draw 15 minutes from the end.

Speaking after the final whistle the ex-River Plate and Betis man was happy with how his team performed against Ronaldinho and the rest of the Fla superstars, but he was certain that an even better result was up for grabs in front of their own fans.

"I think we did everything right, we put the effort in. We wanted to and deserved to win," the forward told reporters on Wednesday evening.

"However, we did not have the same ruthlessness in front of goal that we had against San Lorenzo [in a 4-1 victory]."

Lanus currently lie top of the Clausura table after the first round and will travel to Avellaneda to take on Independiente this weekend.
