thumbnail Hello,

The deal for the Brazil international looked set to collapse last week but the player dug his heels in and his stubborn stance ultimately proved decisive

Flamengo vice-president of finance Michel Levy has paid tribute to Vagner Love for forcing through his return to Rio de Janeiro.

The Brazilian outfit announced on Wednesday that, after weeks of negotiations, that they had finally completed the signing of the forward from CSKA Moscow for amfee believed to be in the region of €10 million.

It appeared last week that the deal had collapsed because of Flamengo’s inability to meet their Russian rivals’ asking price.

However, an agreement was eventually reached and Levy believes that Vagner Love’s influence was key.

“The most important thing was the will of the player,” he told Globoesporte after arriving in Rio with the club’s newest signing. “He fought and was decisive.

“CSKA have money and did not need to sell him but Flamengo president [Patricia Amorim] was very fond of Love. I said I would return with him.”

Vagner Love, for his part, was thrilled that his dream of returning to Flamengo had finally been realised.

“It’s the best feeling to be back, a real joy,” the 27-year-old striker enthused. “It was my wish [to return]. Now I really want to win titles.”

Vagner Love previously wore the Flamengo shirt during a six-month loan spell with the club in the first half of 2010.
