thumbnail Hello,

The Barcelona great is planning to run for mayor of Rio de Janeiro, with the former Deportivo forward to act as his deputy, according to reports

Romario and Bebeto formed a dynamic, diminutive tandem on the football field, one that propelled Brazil to glory at the 1994 World Cup in the USA, where the former hit five goals en route to the Golden Ball and his trusted sidekick contributed three.

Now they are attempting to begin a partnership in another area – a political one. Indeed, according to O Globo newspaper, Romario is planning to run for mayor of Rio de Janeiro, with Bebeto acting as his deputy.

Romario was instrumental in Bebeto's appointment as America-RJ coach in 2010, a position he has since vacated.

That same year, Romario was elected into Brazil's lower house of congress, while Bebeto made Rio state's congress.

Romario struck 55 goals in 70 internationals and sits third on Brazil's all-time leading scorers' list behind Pele and Ronaldo, while his compatriot, with 39 in 75, occupies fifth position, one slot below Zico.
