According to Globo, Romario was arrested by authorities on Tuesday afternoon after he failed to make over €32,000 in child support payments.
The former Barcelona star, who spent the night in jail, reportedly ignored to make alimony payments to his first wife, Monica Santoro.
It is believed that he could be jailed for up to 30 days if he fails to make the ordered payments.
The retired player's attorney, Norval Valerio, has indicated that this situation is nothing but a mistake, saying, "The alimony is paid. I will take all the confirmatory documents to the Barra court," he said.
