Quinonez, Cuevas To Leave Santos
According to reports, foreigners Michael Jackson Quinonez and Nelson Cuevas won't be taken into consideration by Santos next season...
Brazilian giants Santos are set to release Michael Jackson Quinonez, of Ecuador, and Nelson Cuevas, of Paraguay, before the beginning of the 2009 Paulista State Championship.
"Marcio Fernandes (the coach of Santos) made it very clear that neither of the two players will form part of his plans in 2009," Adilson Durante, a leading director of the club, declared to UOL.
According to the director, Cuevas is on the verge of moving to a club from either Mexico or Paraguay on loan. Cuevas signed a one-year deal with the side from the Vila Belmiro last July.
As well as this, Durante stated that Santos received an offer from Copa Libertadores champions Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito for Quinonez. Apparenty both clubs are negotiating a possible loan deal.
The Ecuadorian defender joined Santos in 2007, and he still has one year left on his contract.
Santos experienced a horrible season last year, and only managed to escape from relegation to the Second Division in the final rounds.
Due to their deep struggles, several of their squad members will be released in the following weeks, making way for fresh talent.
