Zenit St Petersburg coach Luciano Spalletti has admitted that defeating Anzhi Makhachkala in the Russian Premier League on Monday evening even on home soil was not easy.
Roman Shirokov broke the deadlock for Spalletti’s side as early as the fourth minute and then on the stroke of half-time Danko Lazovic found the target to put his team 2-0 to the good.
However, after the match Spalletti admitted that it was not easy defeating Anzhi and has been quoted by Fifa.com as saying, "Recently we beat Anzhi 1-0 on their turf in the Russian Cup.
"Today we created more chances and managed to score more goals but it was even harder to win as they concentrated their forces in defence and were playing much more carefully."
The victory means that the defending Russian champions have now collected six points out of six from their opening two matches in the league and are level on points with Rubin Kazan at the top of the table.
